Cease From Sin

1 Peter‬ ‭4:1-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.”

In this passage, Peter explains the requirement for believers to be Christ-minded and to cease from sin. It is a call from worldly lusts to living within the will of God.

We are warned about falling prey to the sins of a life without Christ, where we seek joy and happiness through worldly behaviours.  Peter lists some of these as:

* shameless sensuality
* Lust
* Drunkenness
* Incessant feting and partying fueled by alcohol usage
* Idol worship

The world, he says,  will think it strange you do not pursue these things and will speak evil of you. However, we are to remain steadfast!

Always remember that, at the end of the day, the one we should fear and hold in reverence is the God who will judge mankind. Do not fall prey to earthly lusts to satisfy earthly man's expectations.
